Forklift Refresher Courses

The need for forklift refresher training is set out in the HSC Code of Practice (L117 para 47) and the guidance provided by PUWER 98 regulation 9 (L22 para. 188).

The Association of Industrial Truck Trainers recommend that employers should continuously monitor the performance of their operators to ascertain whether refresher training may be required. Typical indicators would be frequent near misses, accidents or consistently unsafe working practices. In general it is recognised that:

The purpose of refresher training is twofold. Firstly to help forklift operators to ensure that they have not slipped into bad habits or unsafe practices. Secondly to keep operatives up to date with latest health and safety regulations and best practices. Health and Safety is continually evolving and best practice can change over time particularly as technology changes.
